How to add a YouTube video to your Joomla website

I got asked recently how to get a YouTube video into a Joomla web page.  Well here's how to do it in Joomla 1.5, newer versions of Joomla will be very similar to this method.

It is assumed you already know how to create and save a new article. If not then read my article on how to create a Joomla article first.

1) Go to YouTube and find the YouTube video you want to include in your web page.

2) Click the "SHARE" button below the video.

3) An address will appear in a box.

4) Click on the "Options" button next to the address.

5) There is a check button at the bottom.  It says "Long Link". Click the button and then copy the new long address that appears in the address bar above.

6) Go to your Joomla article.

7) Place your cursor within your article at the point where you want your video to appear.

8) In the toolbar of the editing box is an icon which looks like this: Joomla add video icon. Click this and a new dialogue box will appear as follows:

I've marked on the diagram what you need to do, but here it is in easy steps.

9) Add your copied url from YouTube into the second box.

10) Dimensions will appear in the dimensions boxes, but you can change these to what you like.

11) There are some advanced options for your video. Click on the Advanced tab and you will see various settings which you can apply to your video. I'm not going to go into all the settings, they are reasonably self explanatory so I would suggest having a play around with them to get the functionality you want for your video when it loads in the page.

12) When all done click the insert button and save your article.  Then preview your video in the web page.

Hope this helps anyone stuck on this please feel free to leave a comment.
